INLAND AIR RETURNS TO KITKATLA MARCH 15TH

8 03 2010

Since the previous owner of Inland Air discontinued scheduled service into Kitkatla in 2005, we have received numerous requests to resume our scheduled flights. Over the years we have always given serious consideration to these requests, and have regretfully had to turn down people in the community the opportunity to fly with us.  We feel that the time has come to change this.

Therefore, effective Monday, March 15th at O9:00 Inland Air will recommence scheduled service to Kitkatla and Oona River.

Flights will depart Seal Cove at 09:00 and 15:00 Monday to Friday. We will also offer a 12:00 flight on request, with a minimum of 4 passengers. Mona and Vince Davis have agreed to be our agents in Kitkatla again, so you may contact them to book your seats. Schedule and fares will be available.

Our phone number in Prince Rupert is 250 624-2577. Our staff will be more than happy to help you in any way we can. Inland Air has always had a reputation for friendly and courteous service, and we continue to provide that same welcoming atmosphere today.

We look forward to serving the community of Kitkatla again, renewing old friendships, and we anticipate making many new friends in the future.

Mothership Kayaking Tours in the Queen Charlotte Islands  (Haida Gwaii)

Gwaii Haanas “Place of Wonder” National Park Reserve & Haida Heritage Site

Explore Gwaii Haanas National Park
By Sea and Air

You’ll spend a full six days travelling in one direction only through Gwaii Haanas National Park & Haida Heritage Site, either southbound from Cumshewa Inlet to SGaang Gwaay or northbound from SGaang Gwaay to Cumshewa Inlet. Each trip will either begin or end with a spectacular seaplane flight over Gwaii Haanas from Queen Charlotte City to (or from) the M.V. Island Bay.

Why choose a one direction only “Fly In / Out” Mothership Kayaking trip?

  • You’ll spend more of your valuable trip time paddling, hiking and exploring.
  • You’ll enjoy calm waters and a higher safety margin. Travelling in one direction only means less distance to travel which means greater flexibility for choosing optimal sea conditions.
  • Spend more time in the remote, rugged and spectacular southern portion of Gwaii Haanas
  • Enjoy a great “flight–seeing” experience through the beautiful southern Charlottes.

Archipelago Ventures Ltd. has been providing a commercial charter and adventure tour service on the Islands since 1980. All of our captains and guides have been long time residents of the Charlottes (one was born in Queen Charlotte City!) and know the islands well. Over those years we have provided a warm and friendly alternative to exploring the more remote corners of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands)

Grizzly Bear Tours

29 12 2009

Grizzly Bear Tours – once in a lifetime wilderness nature adventures to the Khutzeymateen valley of the grizzly bear near Prince Rupert, British Columbia and approximately 10 miles from the Alaskan border.

Palmerville Adventures is the only floating lodge that does grizzly bear tours in the Khutzeymateen.

This excursion combines both boat and air travel. You will depart from Prince Rupert BC, travelling by fixed wing aircraft. The scenic ride to bear country is sure to thrill, as you fly over rugged and remote valleys and cirque lakes in the high sub-alpine meadows, pass over steep-walled fjords where rock faces rise sharply from the deep sea floor. The 30 minute flight takes you to our floating dock, anchored near the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary. Our flight paths are carefully planned to ensure that we do not disturb the bears. You will deplane to board our 10-passenger, covered boat for two hours of exciting exploration in the spectacular wilderness setting in the protected waters of the Khutzeymateen Inlet. Your return flight to Prince Rupert will trace a different route, no less interesting or magnificent.

This wonderful, gentle Grizzly bears excursion is suitable for adventurers of all ages.

Prince Rupert Flightseeing

29 12 2009

Our North Coast flightseeing excursions feature our favourite mountain and landscapes, and are designed to take advantage of varied flying conditions. On our beachcomber special you’ll explore the rugged coastline, remote island beaches and watch for sea mammals, such as whales, dolphins and sea lions. Our Peninsula tour features the remarkable landscape of the Coast Range Mountains covered in rich rainforest vegetation, while our fjord tour takes in the drama of inland glaciers and rugged slopes above treeline.

Departures
Our office and hangar are located at Seal Cove Seaplane Base, at the northwest corner of Prince Rupert. We have a spacious parking lot where you can leave your vehicle, or you can reach us by taxi or city bus. Taxi service to and from the base is readily available and reasonably priced. Skeena Taxi offers a flat fare from the cruise ship dock to Seal Cove that is (at the time of this writing) $8.50/4-person vehicle and you can telephone 250-624-2185 for pick-up. The city operated Transit Bus #51 runs on a scheduled circuit, and at the time of this writing, the fare is $1.25/adult.

Pre-flight briefing
We review our proposed flight plan with each guest party before we depart, describing our route and tour highlights. Our planes are equipped with headsets and intercom systems so that you can communicate with your pilot throughout the tour and we’ll give you a map to follow the flight. We are happy to adjust our route to suit your pleasure, and it goes without saying that weather considerations and safety come first.

We welcome your inquiry and encourage you to drop in and see us. To avoid disappointment we urge you to book in advance.

Haida Gwaii

29 12 2009

East Coast of Gwaii HaanasThe Queen Charlotte Islands / Haida Gwaii is an archipelago consisting of nearly 150 islands, situated approximately 75 km off the west coast of Canada, near the southern border of the Alaska panhandle. The island cluster is shaped like a triangle that is about 300 km long and a 100 km wide.

After visiting Haida Gwaii for the first time, many visitors who have witnessed the living culture, the heritage sites, experienced nature and the remarkable solitude of Haida Gwaii first-hand, voice a deep appreciation for the land, the sea and the people.

The two largest islands in the group are Graham, in the north, and Moresby in the south. There are some 115 km of paved roads, and most of the islands’ 6100 residents live on Graham Island and the northern portion of Moresby. The UNESCO World Heritage Site/ Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site is situated on the lower portion of Moresby Island.

Scheduled air service to the islands is available from Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia and local charter air service provides access to remote locations. The BC Ferry Corporation operates regular sailings between Prince Rupert on the British Columbia mainland, and Skidegate, on Graham Island.
